Taking Care of Your Dentures
Much like good oral hygiene protects your natural teeth, good denture hygiene is key to maintaining your oral health and long-term satisfaction with your dentures. Dr. Hightower advises that, when cleaning your dentures, you should first rinse away loose food particles thoroughly. Then wet your toothbrush and apply denture cleanser. And like your mom always told you, remember to brush every surface, scrubbing gently to avoid damage. Dr. Hightower recommends that you clean your dentures two to three times every day, preferably after every meal. This keeps your dentures in good shape and helps freshen your breath. In addition, it’s important to brush the other areas of your mouth. Brush your gums, tongue, and palate every morning with a soft-bristled brush before inserting your dentures. This not only leads to a minty fresh feeling, but it’s important to stimulate your oral tissues, as well as remove plaque from all areas of your mouth.
